This Malaysian restaurant brings the nostalgic charm of a classic kopitiam into a contemporary setting, blending traditional elements with modern design. Inspired by the Malaysian shophouse, we incorporated iconic features like red vertical signage along verandah-style columns, wooden louvered windows, and half-height tiled walls in light cyan to echo the ambiance of old kopitiams. Milo tins serve as utensil holders, while vintage posters from the 80s adorn the walls, evoking a warm, nostalgic vibe.
The menu items become striking visual elements, displayed on large barrisol lightboxes in traditional Chinese font that mimic the cantilevered signages of shophouses. Some lightboxes are suspended as light fixtures, adding character to the double-volume dining space. The façade is randomly dotted with similar signage, while the ceiling is painted in a vibrant orange to complement the brand’s logo.
A full-height mural anchors one side of the main dining area, opposite to four small lightboxes that bear the playful message, “finish the soup.” With warm 3000K lighting, the space offers a fusion of nostalgia and futurism, reimagining Southeast Asian heritage for a contemporary audience.
