The clients are a young family with one child and two cats, with very high environmental standards for all materials used throughout the house.
Our goal was to create a home environment that feels bold yet grounded.
We began by completely reconfiguring the layout based on the family’s lifestyle needs. Due to the nature of the renovation, we removed almost all non-load-bearing walls.
We proposed several bold interventions.
One of our core ideas was to break the conventional separation of floors typically seen in multi-level townhouses, where communication between levels is limited.
In the living room, we used raw wood textures in contrast with refined metal finishes and terrazzo.
In the master bedroom, we designed a space using richly textured gray paint paired with fine metallic lacquer and timber flooring. In the walk-in wardrobe, instead of using a traditional mirror, we introduced a cube-shaped mirror-finished stainless steel volume that juts out from a white glass wall. The lighting behind the white glass illuminates the person standing in front of the mirror with a sculptural effect.
For the bathroom, terrazzo was combined with metal and metallic lacquer finishes. The washbasin is a fully custom-designed steel countertop. A frosted, backlit mirror provides even lighting for the lady of the house to apply makeup. The washing machine and dryer are also fully concealed within cabinetry.
A home studio was also designed. Here, we removed the flat ceiling on the second floor to expose the pitched roof of the attic above, creating a double-height space that visually connects the two levels. A notable feature is a suspended, floor-free desk—engineered by our structural consultant in Singapore.
In the basement's garage entrance lobby, we designed built-in shoe storage and a dedicated area for changing shoes.
